Coaching Services

GiddyupUltra Coaching is a collective of like-minded ultrarunning coaches who believe in ancestral nutrition, strength, mobility, longevity, and pioneering fat-adaptation strategies.

All of our coaches have been influenced by the philosophies of Arthur Lydiard, Dr. Jack Daniels, and Training for the Uphill Athlete by Jornet, House and Johnston. We believe in the power of nutrient-dense, real-food nutrition, with influences from Primal Blueprint and Primal Endurance; Dr. Paul Salidino’s The Carnivore Code and Volek and Phinney's The Art and Science of Low Carb Performance; and leveraging Peter Defty and Vespa's OFM (Optimized Fat Metabolism) method. Our holistic approach to ultra endurance training, nutrition, strength and mobility provide our athletes with the foundational tools for longevity and success.

Jeff Browning, Head Coach

Jeff (aka Bronco Billy) has been competing in ultramarathons for over two decades. He has racked up 40 career ultra wins — 29 of those in the 100-mile-plus distance. Jeff has been ranked seven times in the Top Ten of Ultrarunning Magazine’s North American Ultrarunner of the Year — the only man over 50 to make the list. Specializing in hard mountain ultras, he pulls from his wealth of knowledge and experience to help his athletes improve their mindset, nutrition, strength, mobility, and grit.

Remo Spagnol, Ultra Run & Nutrition Coach

Born and raised in a small village in Italy, Remo began his running journey at the age of 40. Since then, he has accumulated an impressive number of ultra accolades, including Badwater Ultra Cup finisher, two-time finisher of Moab 240, winner of the 2021 Across the Years 48hr, and winner of 2022 Wildcat Ultra 100. Remo is a UESCA-certified ultrarunning, running, and endurance sports nutrition coach; a personal trainer, nutrition coach, and corrective exercise specialist. He is a firm believer in a holistic approach to training, including mindset, hydration, lifestyle nutrition, strength, and mobility.

Trish Arends, DPT, BSSPME & Run Coach

Trish began her ultra career when she signed up for a 50-miler on a whim. And while that first finish was brutal, she was hooked. Since then, Trish has acquired several podium finishes in the Midwest and Idaho, set two course records, had her first 100-mile finish at Javelina 100, and expanded her love of trail running to include multi-day adventures in the backcountry. As a physical therapist, Trish treats the fascial system through a technique called Myofascial Acupuncture, combined with mobility and strength training through Functional Range Conditioning. She is also a Pose Method-certified running coach, an Art of Breath facilitator, and Kinstretch-certified instructor. She specializes in understanding the body as a whole system and how it should move properly.

Tyler Welch, Run Coach

A Pennsylvania native, Tyler earned a degree in Exercise Science from Penn State University. A NASM-certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, Tyler is passionate about how strength and conditioning, coupled with nutrition and endurance training is a recipe for health and longevity. Personal running achievements include the 2022 Cocodona 250, 2021 Mogollon Monster 100, and extensive exploration of the Grand Canyon.

4-Week Movement Assessment Coaching

Trish Arends is a physical therapist by trade and an ultramarathoner. Over the years of working in the clinic, she began to notice the lack of treatment of the person as a whole. I’ve been running for almost 30 years (high school, D1 college and post university), and at the age of 38 I ran my first ultra. I maintained my college-type training schedule and although I had some success, I couldn’t make it through anything longer than a 50k without severe stomach distress and other issues. I resigned myself that I needed help figuring out “ultras” and after lots of research on coaches started working with Jeff less than 2 years ago. I was skeptical about the lower mileage program, but Jeff takes a holistic approach and factored in my family life (6 kids) and full-time career and nutrition to ensure I didn’t burn out and could reach the start line healthy and ready to compete in each race. He takes as much time as you need to discuss nutrition, training and life balance, and is a wellspring of knowledge. After less than 2 years working with Jeff, at 43, I have PR’d all my mountain climbs by substantial margins and reached the podium in nearly all of my “A” races. No doubt I am stronger and fitter now at 43 than when I was competing in college.
